IAEMSC Prepares for Leadership Summit

The International Association of EMS Chiefs (IAEMSC) 2011 Annual EMS Leadership Summit to be held in Washington, DC. Oct. 28-31 will feature state and federal elected officials. The elected officials will participate in an important session entitled, “EMS Advocacy from the Other Side of the Table” and provide a perspective of how the emergency medical services profession is viewed by both a state senator and United States Senator.

  • Colorado State Senator John Morse served 14 years as a paramedic, and 13 years as a police officer and police chief before being elected to the state senate in November 2006 to represent Senate District 11 in the Colorado Springs area.

  • United State Senator Chris Coons was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2010 to represent Delaware after serving 4 years as the New Castle County Council President and 6 years as New Castle County Executive.  He currently serves on the Foreign Relations, Judiciary, Energy and Budget committees in the 112th Congress.

This will be a unique opportunity for EMS chiefs to hear how their agencies and the EMS profession are perceived by their elected officials”, said IAEMSC President Lawrence E. Tan.  “More importantly, EMS chiefs in attendance will hear first-hand how they can more effectively interact with key elected officials in their role as advocates for the EMS profession.”

The IAEMSC Leadership Summit is intended for middle and senior leaders in EMS organizations and will include attendees from across the United States as well as from the international EMS community.

This year’s Summit will include a special pre-conference session on Friday, October 28, limited to a small group of participants interested in sharing issues and solutions on a variety of subject.  Registered pre-conference participants will be able to submit requests for the discussion of specific subjects in advance of the Summit.

The IAEMSC mission is to support, promote and advance the leadership of EMS response entities and to advocate for the EMS profession. IAEMSC membership is made up of leaders from both career and volunteer EMS organizations and proudly represents and embraces the diversity of EMS agencies throughout the world.

Highlights from the IAEMSC’s 2010 Summit are presented in the accompanying photo gallery.

Additional information on this summit, online registration and hotel accommodations at the Capital Hilton Hotel can be found at www.IAEMSC.org.  The special IAEMSC room rates will expire on Thursday, October 6th.
