Former Boston Emergency Medical Services chief Richard Serino is being sworn in as deputy administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate will swear in his deputy at the Department of Homeland Security agency during a brief ceremony set for Monday morning at the historic Faneuil Hall in Boston.
President Barack Obama s administration announced his appointment in July, citing Serino s 35-year career in emergency management and emergency medical services.
Serino was also the assistant director for the Boston Public Health Commission. He has served as a guest lecturer at Harvard and Boston University on homeland security and emergency preparedness issues.
He also worked as a national faculty member for the Domestic Preparedness Program at the U.S. Department of Defense.
