FDNY EMT Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

An FDNY EMT has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit and run that killed a Brooklyn teacher last May, according to a report by NBC 4.

Tariq Witherspoon, 30, is accused of hitting Matthew Jansen, 58, with his Rolls Royce as Jansen crossed the street against traffic.

Witherspoon, an 11-year-veteran of the FDNY, was arrested on Tuesday. He’s charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and was given a speeding violation.

Witherspoon was released from jail after posting $15,000 cash bail. He is suspended from the FDNY without pay.
