Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano has apologized to city medics for an insulting “administrative foul-up” last week during the FDNY’s Medal Day.
The medals for lifesaving efforts were given to firefighters first, putting FDNY emergency medical technicians and paramedics dead last. The “proper order” is to mingle them, Cassano said.
His apology followed a furious letter from Patrick Bahnken, president of the EMS union.
“I have never in my life witnessed such a callous, wanton act of deliberate disrespect,” he said.
But yesterday Bahnken told The Post he was satisfied with Cassano’s apology and his promise that it wouldn’t happen again.
