Ex-Associate Director of VA Office of EMS Accused of Embezzling $4M

A onetime leader of the Virginia Department of Health is accused of stealing over $4 million from the state and using the money to buy real estate, luxury vehicles, firearms and jewelry, according to WRIC-TV.

Adam Lamar Harrell, most recently the associate director of the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, is facing charges of mail fraud, stealing from a federal program and tax evasion, according to the report.

Court documents state, according to the report, that Harrell is accused of funneling over $4 million into a shell company.

Harrell, who began working for the state in 2013, is scheduled to appear in court on July 18.
