The 911 service disruptions came as Microsoft reported widespread outages to several of its products. It was not immediately clear if the Microsoft problems played a role in the dispatch outage.
Minneapolis Police, and many other departments, were using social media channels to tell civilians to call in using non-emergency phone numbers.
Microsoft Azure, the Microsoft’s cloud computing service, posted the following message: “A subset of customers in the Azure Public and Azure Government clouds may encounter errors performing authentication operations for a number of Microsoft or Azure services.”
The New York Police Department told CNN its 911 services reported no outages, but it did have problems with Microsoft accounts.
