Boston EMS Chief Picked for FEMA Position

Boston EMS Chief Richard Serino has been tapped by President Obama to serve as the Federal Emergency Management Administration s second in command.

The White House announced Serino s nomination as deputy administrator yesterday afternoon. He must be confirmed by the Senate before he can start the FEMA job.

It s exciting. To say I m honored is an understatement. I m truly humbled. I mean, I m a kid from Dorchester, Serino said. It s really more about the people in the city, the EMTs, the medics. It s really about them and all the great work they do day in, day out.
