AAA Ambulance (MS) Reports Data Breach

AAA Ambulance said it discovered a data breach this summer that may have exposed personal information and protected health information.

The Hattiesburg (MS)-based ambulance service said it found the attempted ransomware attack sometime around July 1 and “took immediate action to prevent the encryption of AAA systems, further secure our environment, and initiate an internal investigation into the incident,” the company said in a statement.

“On August 26, 2020, after thorough investigation, AAA learned that the personal information of certain individuals may have been accessed or taken during the incident,” the company wrote. “While we are not aware of the misuse of any information potentially impacted, we are providing this notice and providing information regarding steps individuals can take to protect their information.”

The investigation found names, date of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account numbers, medical information and health insurance information may have been compromised.

The company said it notified all affected individuals and is offering complimentary credit monitoring services.
