Dr. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician and recipient of a JEMS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, is headed to Congress.

Jackson, a Republican in the heavily conservative West Texas 13th District, defeated Democrat Gus Trujillo Tuesday night.

“We’re going to go in there and we’re going to fight, we’re going to keep Texas red, we’re going to protect our conservative Texas Christian values,” Jackson told supporters after declaring victory. “We are going to have a voice, I promise you.”

Jackson was presented with his JEMS Lifetime Award at EMS Today in Salt Lake City for his decades of support of emergency medical services and close coordination of presidential and Secret Service planning, and medical logistics planning with local EMS agencies throughout his career.

Jackson, who served under Presidents Trump, Obama and Bush, replaces Rep. Mac Thornberry, one of six Republican congressmen in Texas retiring this year.
