David R. Boyd, MDCM, FACS, EMT-B (hon.)
David R. Boyd, MDCM, FACS, EMT-B (hon.), is an Illinois trauma surgeon responsible for establishing the trauma center at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago and Illinois Trauma Center in 1971. Boyd was appointed director of the federal EMSS program in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare by President Gerald Ford. Boyd is recognized as the "father of trauma and EMS systems." His concepts, efforts and leadership have made lasting impressions on the structure of trauma care and EMSS delivery nationwide. Boyd also served on EMS Magazine's editorial advisory board for several years.
