Captain Brad Van Ert, FF, EMT-P, has worked for the Downey (Calif.) Fire Department for 29 years. He began as a firefighter, then spent eight years as a FF/paramedic. He has served as a captain for nearly 20 years. He has a bachelor's in occupational studies from California State University Long Beach and is currently working on his master's in emergency services administration.
