Twenty-Three Staff, 13 Patients Test Positive for COVID-19 at MA Medical Center

According to a report from WWLP, 23 Baystate Medical Center staff and 13 patients on a non-COVID floor have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the health officials.

Dr. Mark Keroack president and CEO of Baystate Health, made the announcement Monday during the weekly COVID-19 City of Springfield update. COVID-19 spread at a non-COVID clinical unit last week after one of the facility’s employees worked while being sick with the virus.

Keroack also said an employee traveled to a virus hotspot within the United States and had contracted COVID-19. After returning to the area, that employee then went back to work.

Keroack also said the virus spread despite the precautions the center has taken including temperature screening from a lack of social distancing as well as not wearing masks in one of the hospital’s breakrooms.
