Watch: The Voices of COVID

Dallas Fire-Rescue Training

This very well done insightful, educational and emotional video was prepared and shared by Dallas (TX) Fire Rescue to illustrate the impact that COVID-19 has had on their personnel, their families and their department. The last two minutes of this video are especially compelling and will bring tears to your eyes.

This impactful video is a solid reminder of why we all have to “stay the course” for another few months with consistent PPE, decontamination, social distancing and good personal hygiene until a vaccine is available. We had done it since March (five months) so we can do it for another six months until a vaccine can be administered to our crews.

While this video points out that almost any person over 21 can contract COVID-19, national data tells us that personnel over age 40, and/or those who have co-morbid factors such as obesity, diabetes, cardiac or respiratory conditions, or history of cancer treatment, should be especially protected or isolated on calls that involve suspected COVID-19 patients if at all possible over the next few months.

This disease preys on these highly susceptible individuals and tends to accelerate the destruction and occlusion of the lungs, producing higher morbidity and mortality.
