With the Roane County (WV) EMS squad working off a 40-year-old tax levy, it may be time for county residents to pay a yearly fee to keep the service running, according to a report.
WCHS/WVAH reports the proposed $50 fee would bring in about $260,000 more than what the department currently receives.
The money would go toward ambulances, education and staying fully staffed. The levy was put in a place when the department had just one truck and a volunteer department.
Roane County EMS Director Josy Ratliff noted the department lost $100,000 when the department lost its transportation contract with the local hospital.
A town hall is being held on Thursday to discus funding options.
