Critical Care (PA) EMT Jeremy Emerich passed away Thursday after “valiantly” battling coronavirus.
Emerich, 40, “was a dedicated servant to his country as a veteran, his community as a long time firefighter and emergency medical technician,” according to a Facebook post from Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac.

The U.S. Army veteran was also a sergeant with the Exeter Township (PA) Fire Department.
His sister, Melanie Emerich, told the Reading Eagle “if Jeremy could help somebody, that’s what he did.”
“I did not expect that call this morning,” she told the newspaper. “I thought my brother was going to make it. It’s just not fair.
“He spent his whole life saving everybody. That’s what he wanted to do, and he couldn’t save himself this time.”
Emerich was honored by a procession of first responders.
