SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A special ambulance was reportedly used to transport the first patient in Texas with coronavirus.

The San Antonio Fire Department shared an image to local media that showed the walls in the unit covered with plastic sheets.

U.S. officials on Thursday announced the country’s 15th confirmed case of the new coronavirus as an evacuee from China.

The patient was flown to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio last week. That person is now in isolation at a hospital and was reported in stable condition.

Chief Charles Hood said the ambulance will be used exclusively to transfer patients sick with the coronavirus or those suspected of being infected with the virus.

“Citizens should expect the tremendous care they receive every single day, this is not going to change that,” said Hood, according to mysanantonio.com.

The department has more than 30 members on the Infectious Disease Response Unit.
