The Right Stuff: What it Takes to Be an FDNY EMT and Paramedic

NEW YORK CITY – The FDNY gives CBS 2 New York a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be an EMT or paramedic in the city that never sleeps.

Rigorous training is key for the more than four thousand emergency medical professional in the department’s ranks who responded to more than 1,531,000 emergencies last year. The FDNY says 2019 was its busiest year on record.

Staff are trained at the FDNY’s Emergency Medical Service Academy at Fort Totten in Queens.
