AMR Pushes Back Against Low Wage Claims in Massachusetts

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – American Medical Response is pushing back against claims of low pay and morale after a recent public protest by dozens of employees, according to

“We want to make it absolutely clear that we care about two things: continuing to provide outstanding service to the city of Springfield and taking care of our employees who serve those communities,” said AMR Regional Manager Patrick Pickering.

Pickering said the company reached out to the union to work out a market wage adjustment but has not heard back. The contract expires in June 2020.

The newspaper previously reported AMR began offering $50 incentives for employees to show up for work and a popcorn machine was recently installed at the office to boost morale.

A union official told the newspaper the latest contract offer is “insulting.”

“We have received talks with corporate AMR and they offered us an extremely low ball raise that was insulting to all us,” according to Colt Cross, of OPEIU Local 6.
