AUSTIN, Texas – A new system is now in place between Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) and local police if emergency medical crews are being assaulted.

FOX 7 Austin is reporting the announcement of the new call codes was made at Monday’s public safety commission meeting.

This comes after a report released this summer indicated 63 percent of all ATCEMS medics were assaulted more than once in the past two years.

Medics are now receiving training on how to avoid attacks.
