A paramedic with Northern Berkshire EMS in Western Massachusetts is stepping out of the shadows to share is own story of opioid addiction.
Stephen Murray talked about his struggles with masslive.com’s Douglas Hook at the Voices for Recovery event over the weekend. Murray said he received helped back in 2011 and never looked back since.
“Two thousand, nine hundred and forty-four days ago, I started my journey of recovery from opiate addiction,” said Murray. “The easy access to pain medication in Miami in 2010 precipitated a rapid spiral for me.”
“We do not have to be anonymous, we do not have to feel ashamed,” said Murray. “ We have to let others know that we exist and that recovery is possible.”
