Sunstar Paramedics and 33 community organizations in Pinellas County, Florida, held a free community health and safety fair this past Saturday, May 18. The event was part of Sunstar Paramedics’ celebration of EMS Week (May 19-25), in which EMS professionals honor and demonstrate their dedication in day-to-day lifesaving services for the community, and their commitment to community partnership, education and improved health.
Kids explored a Sunstar Paramedics ambulance and ambu-bus (for emergency response), Pinellas County Sheriff’s car, Largo Police Department’s SWAT vehicle, Largo Fire Department’s truck, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s critical transport ambulance and a Bayflight helicopter.
Free bike helmets and free life jacket for kids were provided to attendees, and many received free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and samples of healthy foods. Health and safety topics included senior accidental fall prevention, hands-only CPR, sleep safety for infants, and water safety for children.
