Three Injured in Illinois Van Rollover, Fire

Three Southern Illinois residents sustained serious injuries Sunday when the van they were in ran off Interstate 64 in rural Wayne County, overturned and burst into flames.

Illinois State Police reports 47-year-old Robert L. Meek, of Pana, was westbound on I-64 near the Wayne City exit when his 1995 GMC van ran into the median, struck an embankment and went airborne. When the van hit the ground, it overturned, came to rest on its wheels and caught fire.

Meek was able to escape the burning van, along with a passenger, 36-year-old Tonya M. Keller, of Pana. A second passenger, Jeremy D. Keller, 43, also of Pana, had to be removed from the wreckage by members of the Wayne City Fire Department and local ambulance crews.

Meek and Jeremy Keller were taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Tonya Keller was flown to an Evansville hospital.

The accident was reported to authorities at 11:09 a.m. Sunday and remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
