NEMSMA & IAEMSC Suspend Merger Discussions

In December 2013, the boards of directors of the International Association of EMS Chiefs (IAEMSC) and the National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) jointly announced the unanimous decision to proceed with creating a consolidation plan to merge the two EMS associations into a single new organization. That announcement was preceded by months of exploratory discussion; the dialogue between the two organizations has effectively been going on for more than two years.

The NEMSMA board drafted a merger agreement and set a firm deadline of Dec. 31, 2014 for a final decision from the IAEMSC board on whether or not to proceed. However, the IAEMSC indicated that they were unable to commit and suggested that the two associations spend additional time in discussions and further due diligence.

Lacking a firm commitment from IAEMSC to merge, NEMSMA said in a statement that it believes further effort in this regard is neither efficacious, nor cost effective, and that further delays would hinder both associations’ progress. Therefore NEMSMA suspended action concerning the consolidation.

NEMSMA said it remains open to completing the merger with IAEMSC at a time when their leadership is empowered by their membership to commit to, and complete, a consolidation.
