Los Angeles Firefighters Rescue Unresponsive Crane Operator

SAN PEDRO – Los Angeles firefighters rescued the operator of a harbor crane in San Pedro Sunday night after he was stricken with a medical emergency, authorities said.

The victim, a man whose age and name have been withheld, is listed in serious condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The incident was reported at about 9 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Navy Way, the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said.

The crane operator was reported unresponsive inside the crane’s nest, Stewart said.

Firefighters removed him from the crane at about 9:30 p.m. and took him in serious condition to a hospital, she said.

He did not suffer a traumatic injury, Stewart said.
