Emergency personnel in Taipei, Taiwan, work to extract passengers from a commercial plane after it clipped a bridge shortly after takeoff and crashed into the shallow Keelung River. The plane’s wing also hit a taxi on the freeway, injuring the driver and a passenger. Of the 58 passengers on board, 19 were confirmed dead and 15 required treatment for injuries. Rescuers had to pull luggage from an open plane door to clear the fuselage and extract passengers. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense sent 165 people and eight boats to the riverside rescue scene, joining fire department rescue crews.
