Rhiana Ireland Presents on Syncope in Children and Young Adults at EMS Today 2015

Rhiana Ireland, MD, emergency department physician and leader in pediatric care, led a multimedia presentation on fainting/syncope. In this presentation, she prepares the EMS community to take the lead in determining whether this is a simple syncopal episode or something more deadly.

Additional points Rhiana covered were:

  • Why do an EKG on a 6-year-old patient?
  • What is the connection between fainting and fever?
  • When should you suspect a cardiac cause for a syncopal event?
  • How do you identify syncope mimics to provide better patient care?

Ireland’s lecture challenged EMS providers to reassess the way they look at syncope calls and gave them the tools they need to save lives.
