Cardiac Arrest Claims New York Paramedic During EMS Call

It is with a heavy heart that the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps announces the line of duty death of Paramedic Ralph Oswald.

On Monday, February 9, 2015 and approximately 8:58 AM, Paramedic Oswald, 64, responded to a call for an unresponsive male patient. While providing emergency medical assessment on the patient, Paramedic Oswald stated to his crew that he was experiencing distress, whereupon he immediately collapsed in cardiac arrest.

Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance along with Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and transported Paramedic Oswald to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after failed pre-hospital and in-hospital resuscitative efforts.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
