Three Injured in Philadelphia Collapse

PHILADELPHIA (MyFOXPhilly) – Fire crews were at the scene of a partial building collapse in the city’s Rittenhouse section shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The roof of Lululemon Athletica collapsed around 3:00 p.m. on the 1500 block of Walnut Street.

The Department of Licenses say they inspected both 1527 and the adjacent property at 1529 and determined part of the structure dislodged at 1529 Walnut Street. The side parapet wall fell off 1529 Walnut Street and went through the roof of Lululemon, which was an occupied establishment at the time and the debris caused the roof to collapse.

Officers tell FOX 29 that three people are being treated for injuries. One person was taken to Jefferson Hospital, one person was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, and another victim was taken to  Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. FOX 29 has been told the three people are in stable condition.  “It was huge. It shook– it shook it was intense very intense. You see all the lighting crash down the whole ceiling everything just crashing down,” a witness said.

According to the Department of Licenses, both buildings do not have any history of property maintenance violations.
