North Carolina Crash Employs Rescue Vehicles of Every Type

Issue 10 and Volume 39.

Crews from Stony Creek Fire-Rescue (SCFR) and Red Oak Fire Department (ROFD) respond to a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Nash County, N.C. SCFR dispatched a large rescue truck and an intermediate level ambulance, and ROFD sent two engines, a squad truck and an ambulance to the incident. The most critical patient was pinned in the passenger’s seat with both legs crushed by the dashboard. After crews pushed the dash off the patient with a medium ram, she was placed on a backboard and removed out the back passenger side of the vehicle. A waiting helicopter crew took over patient care and flew her to Vidant Medical Center. All other patients were transported via ambulance to local hospitals.
