Anchorage Chief Proposes Shifting Fire, Medic Crews

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) – The Anchorage Fire Department aims to respond to emergency calls within four minutes, but its chief says that’s a challenge right now — and splitting up one AFD station’s fire and paramedic staff could help keep crews from being overworked. AFD Chief John Fullenwider is trying to solve the problem, but he knows adding more staff isn’t always possible. With the department and its crews getting the majority of fire and medical calls from an area that includes Airport Heights, Lake Otis and Tudor, and Downtown, the chief says his paramedics are feeling the heat when it comes to staff numbers.
