FDNY Celebrates Youth Workforce with EMT Graduation

FDNY celebrated its next generation on Apr. 1, as 24 participants in the FDNY Youth Workforce Development Program received New York State EMT certifications.

“You’ll be responding to people who desperately need your help, true life-threatening situations,” Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said during the ceremony at FDNY Headquarters. “You’re going to make the difference in someone’s life.”

The new EMTs were part of the FDNY Explorer program or FDNY High School in Brooklyn.

Twenty-one alumni from these programs are employed with the FDNY, including 18 EMTs, two firefighters and one probationary firefighter currently at the Academy. An additional 22 program alumni are currently working on private ambulances and are awaiting the opportunity to join the FDNY.
