Tsunami Warning Sirens Accidentally Triggered in Hawaii

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — A mistake led to all of the Big Island’s tsunami emergency warning sirens being triggered.

According to the Hawaii Tribune-Herald (http://is.gd/FcpmHv), all of the island’s 71 sirens sounded shortly before noon on Tuesday.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira blamed the problem on human error. He says technicians were conducting system checks as part of their regular procedures following the system-wide tests conducted on the first of each month when a worker accidentally set off the sirens.
