Pa. Medic Punched in the Face During Call

Erie, Pa. — An EmergyCare paramedic was assaulted Thursday evening while trying to treat a patient near the intersection of East 12th and Reed streets. The ambulance was sent to the area for a medical call around 6:20 p.m. when the crew saw a large group of people gathered near the intersection, Erie police said.

Someone knocked on the back door of the ambulance and said a person needed treatment. The paramedic, whose name was not released, left the vehicle and approached the would-be patient, who punched him in the face, police said. The attacker might have been having a panic attack, police said.
