New Jersey Man Killed in Chase Over Stolen EMS Vehicle

VINELAND, N.J. – Police in southern New Jersey say an 81-year-old man was killed when his van was struck by a stolen paramedic vehicle.

The collision occurred in Vineland shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, killing city resident Alfred Costantino.

Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle, 46-year-old Michael Jones of Bridgeton, was treated for minor injuries. He’s being held on charges of felony murder and eluding police. He has not yet been assigned a lawyer.

Jones allegedly stole the Underwood-Memorial Hospital paramedic vehicle from the Franklinville Fire Company’s paramedic station around 8:20 a.m.

He drove the Dodge Durango south to Vineland, where police spotted him and started a pursuit. Police say they broke off the pursuit shortly before the collision.
