KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Council voted Thursday to fast track an ordinance that would combine the MAST ambulance service with the fire department. Mayor Mark Funkhouser cast the deciding vote on the amendment after council members split on a 6-6 vote. The City Council will vote on the issue after a public hearing next week.

One MAST worker who is upset about the decision is Lesa Gonzalez. She fears the merger might cause the quality of medical service to be compromised. She said firefighters at Station No. 42 on Red Bridge Road tried to intimidate her earlier this week with a firework.

She said she had parked her ambulance in the parking lot to use their Wi-Fi connection when a firefighter set off the firework near her ambulance.
