Minor Injuries in Phoenix Light Rail Crash

PHOENIX — A light rail train and a city bus have collided in downtown Phoenix, slightly injuring several passengers.

Phoenix police officer Luis Samudio says seven to eight people complaining of neck and back pain were taken to local hospitals as a precaution. Some were on the bus and some on the train.

Samudio says the accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday at First Avenue and Washington Street. Both were southbound on First Avenue, and the bus driver was turning right onto Washington on a red light. The bus was struck in the side by the train.

Traffic on the southbound light rail line was halted, but Samudio says normal operations are expected to resume by about 8 a.m.
