Heavy Sooners are Hurting Medics

TULSA, Okla. — EMSA is testing a power stretcher that could take a load off emergency workers.

As Oklahomans’ waistlines grow, so do the number of lifting injuries among EMSA paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Tina Wells said, “What is undeniable is that lifting patients is the most frequent cause of paramedic injuries, while at the same time, Oklahoma’s obesity rate continues to climb.”
