EMSA Medics Go to Great Heights for Heat Rescue

TULSA, Okla. — EMSA medics turned the roof of an apartment building into a makeshift medical facility Wednesday.

The ambulance crew was called about 10:45 a.m. to an apartment complex near 31st Street and Mingo Road to help a 29-year-old man who developed symptoms of heat-related illness while working on the roof, EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said.

The medics, carrying equipment and medication weighing more than 50 pounds, climbed the roofing crew’s ladder to reach the patient’s side, she said. Emergency treatment began three flights up, while firefighters pondered the best way to get the patient down.
