FDNY EMT Charged with Fondling Patient

NEW YORK — A New York City Fire Department EMT was arrested and charged with fondling a patient in the back of an ambulance while on the way to a Bronx hospital, officials said yesterday.

Terrance Hardy, 34, of Yonkers, was charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor, and three counts of second-degree harassment, a criminal violation, officials said. If convicted, he would face up to 3 months in jail.

“The charges in this case reflect reprehensible conduct,” Rose Gill Hearn, city Department of Investigation commissioner, said in a statement. “As an EMT this individual was supposed to provide care for his patient. Instead, DOI’s investigation showed he betrayed his authority as well as the trust his patient and the city placed in him.”

Hardy is accused of fondling the patient on two occasions during the ride to the hospital and touching her back inappropriately, officials said.

Hardy has been an emergency medical technician with the fire department since June 2000, officials said. He was awaiting arraignment last night.
