Columbus Firefighters, Paramedics Weigh Pros and Cons of Being Armed
Violent incidents lead first responders to consider being armed
COLUMBUS, Ohio (10TV.com) - The cases of people firing on emergency crews are adding up. Many wonder if those trained to save lives should also be armed. Jay Walters is an 18 year veteran of the Columbus Fire Department. “Any run that we have in the city, that is considered harmful to us,” said Walters. Walter said they are required to wear a bullet proof vest on those runs. It’s almost a daily occurrence.
