In addition to a future upgrade entitlement, the Upgrade Subscription Plan (USP) also enables access to the cloud based Product Recognition Service (PRS) during the subscription period. Of course minor updates, revisions, and bug fixes are always available from the Sassafras web site. But we encourage all customers to keep their subscription active both for PRS access and in order to take advantage of feature enhancements and OS compatibility updates. With each subscription renewal, we also offer a consulation to review your K2 configuration.
Product Recognition Service (PRS)
With an active USP subscription, your KeyServer will automatically import product definitions from the PRS product catalogue at Sassafras as needed to simplify management of software products relevant to your organization. When the subscription expires, existing product definitions will be unaffected but new versions or new products will have to be defined manually without the benefit of access to the PRS.
Version upgrades
Major version upgrades are purchased in one of two ways. Most customers purchase the annual Upgrade Subscription Plan (USP) which entitles upgrade rights for all K2 versions released throughout the subscription period.
Upgrade pricing - active Upgrade Subscription Plan
You may pay 18% of the standard K2 purchase price each year in advance to receive automatic shipment of major version upgrades released throughout the subscription period. This is the most economical way to keep your K2 product up to date.Upgrade pricing - without an active subscription
New versions can be purchased as they are released at a pro-rated cost of 21% per year based on the standard price for your number of client licenses. The cost is pro-rated from your original purchase date or most recent upgrade date.
Additional Client Licenses
Your K2 license can be increased to support additional client computers at any time. The cost to add clients to an existing K2 installation is based on the current client count, features, and on its age or “license date”. When client licenses are added to an existing K2 license, they must be added with the same license date. The total upgrade cost is computed as the sum of the license upgrade costs plus the new client costs - the new client cost alone is computed as the price difference between the old (smaller) and new (larger) license.
Additional Client pricing - active Upgrade Subscription Plan
With an active Upgrade Subscription Plan, the K2 “license date” is the renewal date of the subscription. Additional client licenses must be added to the existing Upgrade Subscription Plan so they will have the same license date.The cost to add the new clients to the USP is calculated at the USP rate of 18% per year, pro-rated to the end of the subscription period. This cost is added to the new clients cost (computed as the price difference between a license supporting the new versus old client count).
Additional Client pricing - without an active subscription
Without an active Upgrade Subscription Plan, the existing K2 license must first be “brought up to date” before new client licenses are added. New clients are then added using this new purchase date so all clients, both old and new, have this same license date.The cost to make the “license date” current is computed at 21% per year, pro-rated from your last purchase date. This cost is added to the new clients cost (computed as the price difference between a license supporting the new versus old client count).
Upgrade Pricing Quotation request
A specific quotation for version upgrade, additional client, or upgrade subscription pricing is calculated based on your unique license. Please include your K2 reference number or product serial number when requesting a quote:
- Your K2 serial number can be found using KeyConfigure’s “About KeyConfigure” dialog. The field labeled “KeyServer ID” in the dialog is your serial number. This serial number can also be found as readable text at the top of your K2 license certificate file (server.lic) - it looks something like [K53OWA544EL35IJ-1122].
