Respiratory Impedance in the Hypotensive Breathing Patient

It’s not uncommon for EMS providers to encounter hypotensive patients, whether from trauma, infection, dehydration or other cause. Impedance threshold devices (ITDs) are a BLS-approved therapy for quickly and effectively raising patient blood pressure in the EMS setting. This article examines current clinical studies of ITD use and their implications for EMS providers.
