The John P. Pryor, MD, Street Medicine Society Award is presented each year to a physician who has come up through the ranks as an EMS provider and constantly demonstrated a sincere and on-going dedication to the betterment of EMS on a regional or national basis through clinical excellence or educational, logistical and/or humanitarian initiatives.
John P. Pryor, MD, FACS, an EMS physician who was killed on Dec. 25, 2008, while serving in Iraq, posthumously received the first award in his name at the 2009 EMS Today Conference. His brother, Richard Pryor, MD, accepted the award from JEMS Medical Director Ed Dickinson, MD, NREMT-P, FACEP, and Mike McEvoy, PhD, RN, CCRN, REMT-P.
At the award ceremony, Dickinson said the award embodies what Dr. John Pryor stood for: EMS physicians who got their start in the field and who are approachable, give back to the field where they cut their teeth, make EMS better and are never arrogant.
To honor John Pryor, the JEMS Street Medicine Society will recognize exemplary EMS physicians each year.
The nomination period for 2013 is now open. Please submit a nomination for an exceptional EMS physician.
Eligibility: This award is open to an individual who is a currently practicing physician (MD or DO), began their career as an EMT or paramedic and contributes to EMS in an exceptional way.
Selection Process: Representatives from JEMS and a panel of EMS experts will judge the entrants.
Award Details: The award will be presented at a general session during each EMS Today Conference, and the winner will receive complimentary registration to attend and accept their award.
