ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Newfoundland and Labrador's largest health board says one of its patients was killed today after a vehicle hit the person.
Eastern Health says an ambulance was taking the patient from one health facility to another in St. John's when it had to stop on the Trans-Canada Highway because of the person's condition.
The health board says while the ambulance was stopped, the patient left and ran into a wooded area.
The ambulance called police to help find the patient, but Eastern Health says the person was killed by a vehicle on the highway shortly after.
The health board says it is reviewing what happened.
It did not identify the patient, citing privacy concerns.
