Proper understanding of the correct landmarks and insertion techniques will instill confidence in your students and crew members when they need to gain IO access in a patient. Neutralize Harmful Pathogens
Protecting yourself from viruses can be difficult in the back of an ambulance. Traditional face masks provide some protection, but they basically act as a filter only, doing nothing to eliminate pathogens that are on the mask itself. The BioMask by Medline Industries Inc. is the first-ever U.S. Food and Drug Administration-cleared antiviral medical face mask. BioMask employs proprietary Ionixx technology that not only filters pathogens, but also inactivates pathogens left on the mask. The hydrophilic outside coating absorbs droplets into and away from the outer surface. Viruses are inactivated on this outer, white, active layer by exposure to citric acid which creates a low pH environment. The droplets then land on the mask’s inner, blue, active layer—where influenza viruses are inactivated by positively charged copper and zinc ions. In laboratory tests, 99.99% of the viruses tested were eliminated. These included pandemic and seasonal strains of influenza viruses, such as H1N1, bird flu and swine flu, that land on or reside on both the outer or inner surfaces of the mask.

With the M2 Cabinet, services can set how and when users can access the drugs stored inside. It also gives them the ability to know who opened or attempted to open the cabinet. The M2 features an electronic security system that allows access using three different options: password, proximity card and electronic fingerprint recognition. Using the downloadable software, administrators can add users, place them in groups, and establish times of access as well as times of access restriction. The administrator can also set which of the access options will be used by each user or group of users. As an example, Group 1 could be assigned access using only their fingerprint to access the cabinet, Group 2 could be assigned to use their fingerprint and personal password on the keypad, and Group 3 could be assigned access using their fingerprint and proximity card. It can also be set to require more than one person to open the cabinet. Every access attempt is saved and can be downloaded to a PC ensuring security and accountability in emergency drug access as well as providing an access audit trail.
