NiteIze Gear Tie
A wise flight medic once told me that you can tell the quality of the ICU nursing care by how neatly the patient’s numerous lines, cables and tubes are arranged and managed. Continued, orderly management of these lines during the transport is often difficult, but the new Gear Tie from NiteIze makes the task a lot easier. The strong wire inside the tough rubber shell can be used over and over to secure lines to the litter but be quickly removed when the patient needs to be transferred to their bed at the receiving facility. The Gear Tie comes in five sizes and colors so you have a lot of options for use and color-coding.

OmniGlow Illuminated Stylet
The back of a patient’s throat can be a dark and foreboding place during an intubation attempt. Even with the bright white of a laryngoscope, the distal folds of tissue at the tracheal opening can be hard to see due to scarring, blood or trauma. The new StyLite Illuminated Stylet from OmniGlow uses a small, white chemical light on the distal end of a stylet, which provides additional light in the posterior pharynx during the intubation attempt. With no batteries, bulbs, LEDs or fiber optics, you just need to remove the black plastic cover and activate the snap light to get three minutes of effective light.

Panasonic Series Projectors
Many EMS folks are hands-on or visual learners, so it’s important to have high-quality images in your presentations. You can purchase lots of consumer-grade projectors, and they’ll work fine, but for just a short time. Professional-grade electronics are often worth the higher price due to their durability and easier service. The new PT-DZ570 Series Projectors from Panasonic features up to 4,500 lumens of brightness, exceptional image quality and native WUXGA resolution for full, high-definition viewing. The projectors support a screen size of 30–400" and 2,304,000-pixel resolution.

Streamlight Protac EMS Light
Everyone should carry a flashlight on duty. But one problem we all have is that the flashlight used to light the room is too bright to also check pupil response. The new Protac EMS Light from Streamlight addresses this dilemma with a “smart switch” that allows you to select three different illumination levels. The first click provides 3.6 lumens, ideal for checking pupils. The second click delivers 10 lumens, perfect for glare-free wound examination. The third delivers 50 lumens, which does a great job of illuminating that dark staircase or basement. The rugged aluminum body is distinctively marked with a Star of Life to identify you as an EMS provider.

Protecto Wrap Extrication Wrap
Using a center punch to access a patient trapped after a motor vehicle crash is quick, but it may lead to contamination of an open wound with glass or add to the hazards the rescue crew face. Extrication Wrap from Protecto Wrap is a rapidly deployable film that holds broken glass together for easy removal. It can also be used to cover the exposed sharp metal edges after a roof is cut off for easier patient access. A typical extrication uses just 7.5' from the 50' roll, so one roll can be used for multiple extrications. The three-ply film resists punctures and tears, and the bright yellow and red arrows make it easy to identify the danger areas.

VBM Medical Pelvic Sling
Pelvic Protection Pelvic fractures can be deadly. Research has shown that circumferential binding of a fractured pelvis will stabilize the fracture, tamponade the bleeding and provide the time needed to get the patient to a trauma center. The new Pelvic Sling from VBM Medical allows you to stabilize the pelvis and adjust the pressure with an air-inflated cuff. The Pelvic Sling’s integrated cuff exerts a lateral pressure to the pelvis, which helps to significantly reduce life-threatening bleeding and pain. It’s available in two sizes: standard and large. A standard size fits a 32–47" pelvis circumference, and a large size fits a 40–50" pelvis circumference.
