2010 JEMS Games
Airway Station
The airway station is the second station in the JEMS Games preliminaries. This year, the teams, including Queen Anne's County (shown here), all had different approaches, but all performed well at these skills.
Cardiac Station
The teams that excelled at the cardiac station were the ones who had decided ahead of time who would handle each responsibility. Surry County is shown here at the station.
Communication is Key
As in the field, the single biggest predictor of success in the games is communication, as EMSA demonstrates here.
BLS before ALS
Of all the teams participating in the competition, only a very small percentage actually performed BLS FBOA techniques while preparing for laryngoscopy. Whether it’s the street or competition, we know that BLS techniques are vital to effective care. Bronze-winning team REMSA is pictured here.
Equipment Checks
Equipment checks are critical before heading out into the streets or competing. Performing them can save valuable troubleshooting time later. FDNY is shown here.
Intubation
Proper technique with the laryngoscope on an average adult should allow enough space to fit a pencil between your blade and the patient’s teeth. Don’t be afraid to ask your partner to help stabilize the head, both in training and on patients, so you can minimize dental trauma. First place team Cumberland County EMS/Duplin County is shown here.
