Travis Polk, MD, is a trauma surgeon on active duty in the U.S. Navy currently stationed at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. He is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in surgical critical care. At the time of this case, he was an instructor in surgery and fellow in traumatology, surgical critical care and emergency surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
