Emergency Room Patient Steals NY Ambulance

| Tuesday, December 1, 2009

HARRIS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 46-year-old woman wearing nothing but a hospital gown left an upstate New York emergency room and drove off in the ambulance she arrived in.

Troopers say the Liberty Volunteer Ambulance Corps picked up Tammy Diescher around 11:30 Monday morning at her home in Livingston Manor and took her to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, 80 miles southwest of Albany.

After she was processed into the emergency department, Diescher returned to the vehicle idling outside and drove off. The ambulance crew called police, who stopped the vehicle minutes later.

Diescher was issued an appearance ticket for possession of stolen property and returned to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Police didn't know if she had a lawyer; her number is unlisted.
