Hurst eDRAULIC Rescue Tools
|As the inventor of the first Jaws of Life, Hurst has been the name in hydraulic rescue tools since 1972. The new line of eDRAULIC Rescue Tools from Hurst cuts the cord and enables rescuers to use the power of hydraulics in a wide variety of operations, including vehicle and off-road rescue. EMS providers gain faster patient access because they need only grab the tool and go. If you need power for extended operations, you simply plug the tools in to a 110v supply. The eDRAULIC line consists of the SP 300E spreader, S700E and S311E cutters, R411E ram and the SC350E combination tools. With spreading forces up to 25,400 lbs. and weighing 37–52 lbs., the eDRAULICS can turn an EMS supervisor’s vehicle into a quick response light rescue.
Max Spreading Force: 25,400 lbs.
Weight: 37–52 lbs.
Price: $7,560 (ram), $9,970 (cutter) and $10,470 (spreader)
PMI Medstorm TRITONGRIP SE Nitrile Exam
|Long gone are the days of EMS providers getting covered in blood without regard for the potential contamination from bloodborne pathogens. EMTs and paramedics are always looking for a better, stronger more comfortable glove. The thin, plastic gloves worn by food service workers may fit some requirements for patient care use, but the gloves need to fit well to perform the fine motor functions of EMS. Medstorm TRITONGRIP SE Nitrile Exam gloves from PMI are a heavy-duty, comfortable, non-latex option to keep you separated from the patient’s body fluids.
Thickness: 5 mil
Price: $9.95 (per box of 100)
Smith’s Detection Systems Chemical Biological Protective Shelter Model E1 (CBPS-M8E1)
|When, where and how will the next terrorist attack occur? Many healthcare providers fear that chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials will be the device of choice. EMS providers are concerned that as the survivors are treated, there will be a need to protect themselves from exposure. Physicians, nurses, paramedics and EMTs who attempt to provide the normal level of care while wearing Level 4 military mission oriented protective posture gear or a Level B hazmat ensemble know that it’s nearly impossible to perform procedures requiring fine manual dexterity without a great deal of practice. The Chemical Biological Protective Shelter Model E1 (CBPS-M8E1) from Smith’s Detection Systems is a mobile, self-contained, rapidly deployed work space. This space provides a highly filtered atmosphere, allowing personnel to work freely without continuously wearing a high level of PPE.
Floor Space: 400 sq. ft.

Prestan Products Infant Manikin
|One of the challenges in CPR education is providing accurate and timely feedback to students so they know their compressions are fast and deep enough. The Infant Manikin from Prestan Products incorporates a series of lights that make it easy for the student to get feedback about compressions. Also, instructors can monitor the compressions of several students at the same time. A red blinking light indicates poor compression depth. A steady red light indicates compressions of adequate depth but at a rate below 60. The light turns yellow for a rate from 60–80, steady green for 80–100, and two green lights indicate a compression rate above 100. The face shield and lungs are easy to change. Another feature is a skin color that resembles cyanosis to add realism to the educational experience.
Weight: 6.5 lbs.
Price: $113 (with monitor)
$99 (without monitor)
Princeton Tec Remix Pro Headlamp
|When search-and-rescue operations extend into the night, it’s time to break out the head gear. Carrying a handheld flashlight provides a lot of options, but it also restricts what you can carry. The Remix Pro Headlamp from Princeton Tec is a lightweight, compact way to see in the dark. It’s powered by a CR123 battery long life and for excellent cold weather performance. The three flood LEDs and single LED spotlight have high and low output modes for a variety of lighting options. |
Weight: 66 grams
Output: 100 lumens
Run Time: 40 hours
Ready Electrode Rapid 12 Lead Pad
|The national standard for door-to-balloon time is 90 minutes when treating STEMIs in hospitals with a cardiac cath lab. Many EMS systems are now benchmarking their performance with an EMS-to-balloon standard that will allow for another round of improvement in STEMI treatment. One way to expedite care in the field is faster placement of the chest leads. The Rapid 12 Lead Pad from Ready Electrode enables paramedics and EMTs to keep the electrodes for the chest leads together and quickly apply them for rapid STEMI diagnosis and treatment. The segments of the Rapid 12 Lead Pad stretch as needed, so the ECG operator may place the leads in the correct position in just a few seconds.

Motorola NNTN8203 APX XE Remote Speaker Microphone
|Reviews of major responses often cite communications as the No. 1 area for improvement. The rumble of an ambulance’s diesel engine creates a din at most emergency scenes that makes hearing difficult and adds to communications difficulties. The NNTN8203 APX XE Remote Speaker Microphone from Motorola has features that clearly send and receive radio communications in some of the loudest environments. The speaker is 50% louder than existing Motorola remote speaker microphones, making it easy to hear the message. Dual microphones help suppress background noise, ensuring your message is easily heard. Larger controls, including volume and emergency button, are easy to operate with gloves and are recessed to avoid accidental activation. There’s also a switch on the remote speaker microphone, so you don’t have to reach for the radio to adjust the volume.
